COURSE OVERVIEW

Software Engineering & Computer Science
This Digital T-Level course is for students who wish to progress into skilled IT employment or higher-level technical training or study.
The main area of study covers:
  • Digital Production
  • Design and Development
  • Included alongside the technical qualification is the completion of an employer set project and a weekly industry placement within the IT industry

About the T-Levels:
This T-Level has been developed in collaboration with employers so the content meets the needs of industry, preparing students for the workplace. There will be a mixture of classroom-based teaching and learning and ‘on-the-job’; learning as the course involves at least 315 hours (approximately 45 days) of Industrial Placement. This new qualification provides the essential knowledge, understanding and skills relevant to any digital occupation. You’;ll learn about the value of digital technology and gain an understanding of customer and commercial needs, alongside the ethical and moral issues raised by the increasing reliance on technology and its impact on culture, autonomous operations and addiction. Use of physical, virtual and Cloud digital environments, emerging technology trends and the application of tools and testing to influence innovation, algorithms and usability are a key part of the course. You’;ll gain a knowledge of data analysis and modelling across different platforms and understand the importance of legal and regulatory requirements, industry standards, privacy, confidentiality and how to manage threats and risk.
About the course:
Software is all around us. Not only in our computers, phones and games consoles, but in our cars and aeroplanes and, controlling our power grids and national defence. With the Internet of Things connecting all electronic devices everywhere, the importance of software can only increase.
This course will prepare you for an exciting career in software development.
Coding is an important part of the course, but you will also learn the other essential skills for software engineering such as:
  • Working with clients to determine what they need
  • Designing system that are “user friendly” for all users
  • Ensuring that software is reliable and secure
  • Working in a group on a project
  • Documenting your work so that it can be maintained in future years
In the first year your will also learn about hardware, data communications and business, because these are areas a developer must understand.
Like all T-levels the course was designed by experts from industry and government. A crucial part of the course is an Industry Placement in which you will work in a software development company.
This course is an excellent springboard to employment, an advanced apprenticeship or a university degree in Computer Science.

FURTHER INFORMATION

5 x GCSE’S at grade 4+, including maths and English. NOTE: Completion of a Disclosure and Barring Service Application (DBS) may be required as you may undertake placements in digital setting that engage with vulnerable people or sensitive data. Age: You will need to be aged between 16 -; 18 at the start of the qualification. If you don’;t meet our entry requirements, we recommend our in-house one year Transition course COMPUTING AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES, OCR LEVEL 2 IN IT. This will help prepare you for the T Level in the subsequent year.
