Software Engineering & Computer Science

This Digital T-Level course is designed for students aspiring to enter skilled IT roles in software development or related fields, as well as those seeking higher-level technical training or education.

About the T-Levels:

This T-Level has been developed in collaboration with industry employers, ensuring the content aligns with real-world needs and effectively prepares students for the workplace. The course includes a blend of classroom learning and practical experience, featuring at least 315 hours (approximately 45 days) of Industrial Placement.

About the Course:

Software is integral to our daily lives—not just in computers, phones, and gaming consoles, but also in cars, airplanes, power grids, and national defence systems. With the Internet of Things connecting devices globally, the significance of software continues to grow. This course will set you up for an exciting career in software development.

While coding is a key component of the course, you will also acquire essential skills in software engineering, including:

  • Collaborating with clients to identify their needs
  • Designing user-friendly systems
  • Ensuring software reliability and security
  • Working collaboratively on group projects
  • Documenting your work for future maintenance

In the first year, you will explore additional areas vital for developers, such as:

  • The business environment
  • Utilizing physical, virtual, and cloud digital environments
  • Emerging technologies
  • Data analysis
  • Legal and regulatory requirements, and industry standards
  • Security practices

As with all T-Levels, this course was crafted by experts from industry and government. A crucial aspect of the program is the Industry Placement, where you will gain hands-on experience in a software development company.

This course serves as an excellent stepping stone toward employment, an advanced apprenticeship, or a university degree in Computer Science.

FURTHER INFORMATION

You will require 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 to include English, Maths and IT, plus suitable reference. You will also need to pass a six week review.
