Brighton MET students given a place to recharge with new sensory hub

9 June 2026

Gateway students from Brighton MET College have recently been hard at work transforming a part of the college into a brand-new sensory hub.

Located at the college’s East Campus, the hub features a variety of sensory equipment, a kitchen space, office space, two iPads, as well as a recently refurbished garden, including a fruit and vegetable patch.

All equipment was bought using funding from the national charity Dreams Come True, with staff then selecting the equipment to cater for a range of students.

The project also included a collaboration with Carpentry students from the college, as they built some of the planters that Gateway staff and students used to work on the garden.

It will form an ongoing project for Gateway students, as they will continue to work on and build the space.

The hub forms a safe space and a haven for any student to visit during break or lunchtime, in order to decompress and destress.

This illustrates Brighton MET and the Chichester College Group’s ongoing commitment to creating a tolerant and inclusive environment for all students and staff.

Matthew Vaughan, Principal of Brighton MET College, said:
“It is great to see our Gateway students get hands-on to help bring this inclusive sensory hub to life. It will help to further improve student wellbeing by offering a calm space to recharge and feel supported.

“This space also reflects the power of collaboration across the college, and we look forward to seeing it continue to grow and evolve as students build on this fantastic foundation.”
