Brighton MET UAL Photography students have recently launched a public exhibition in Pelham Foyer, as part of Brighton Photo Fringe 2024.

Photo Fringe is a volunteer-led, collaborative platform providing essential professional development opportunities and peer support for lens-based artists.

The exhibit is called ‘Common Ground’ a Youth’s Perspective’ and is on display until Wednesday 27 November.

The brief tasked our UAL Foundation and Extended Diploma Photography students with visually interpreting ‘what is the unity within society seen through the eyes of youth’, with this counting as their first project on their course.

Beatrice Haverich, lecturer in Photography at Brighton MET, said:
“Being part of the Photo Fringe Festival every two years with our photography courses, is an excellent opportunity for our new Foundation and 2nd year students.

“This is the fourth year we have taken part in this enriching activity, involving working to a ‘live brief’ within a given time frame and target audience. This creates an exciting start to students’ learning experience with the college.

“I am incredibly proud of how our students have embraced this challenge, showcasing both their creativity and thoughtful interpretations of such an important theme.”

During the project, students were encouraged to debate, and research into news reports, case studies and relevant organisations.

Paul Riley, Principal of Brighton MET College, added:
“Our students have done an amazing job capturing important social themes in their work. This exhibition highlights their talent and the quality of our Creative Arts courses.”

The exhibition is open from Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5.30 pm
