New generation of talent emerges at Brighton MET during collaborative workshops
Brighton MET College students recently took a leading role in a series of exciting workshops to explore new pathways into sustainable careers.
The ‘Meaningful Futures’ co-creation workshops, held in partnership with Sussex Bay, helped connect young people with local organisations to rethink how work experience and career pathways can better reflect the needs of future generations.
Students from the college joined peers from Northbrook College and BHASVIC to form a joint Youth Panel that worked with employers and businesses to rethink work experience and careers pathways.
Each session, led by Meaningful Futures founder Céline McKeown, focused on creating more meaningful and accessible routes into sustainable careers.
The workshops revealed a clear shift in priorities, with young people favouring authentic, real-world experiences over traditional careers portals and the pressure to have their futures mapped out early on.
The Meaningful Futures initiative is a programme designed to connect young people with businesses and organisations, to give them the chance to tackle environmental challenges and understand what meaningful work and sustainable living can look like.
Sussex Bay is a local partnership bringing together organisations, communities and young people to restore the environment while, supporting pathways into sustainable careers.
Celine McKeown, said:
“What impressed me most about the MET students was their honesty, curiosity and their unwillingness to compromise on their values and ethics. The energy, openness and ideas they brought to the sessions were incredible. They asked thoughtful questions, challenged assumptions, and showed a real desire to understand how they can contribute to a better future.
“Meaningful Futures is about making changemaking visible and accessible to all young people. By connecting students with local organisations, businesses and community leaders already creating positive change, we hope they leave with greater confidence, new connections, and the belief that they can make a meaningful contribution through whatever career or life path they choose.”
