Students compete in England Boxing DISE show at Brighton MET College
The Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) Boxing Academy held 15 amateur boxing bouts at the East Brighton Campus on Friday 24 March,
First, flyweight Haydon Mack stepped in against Paul Willett of Attleborough, Norfolk. The counter punching East Anglian took the first 2 rounds with slick movement behind a low guard. Haydon rallied in the 3rd unfortunately dropping a split decision.
Joe Woollard of Moulsecoomb and DiSE took on the more experiences Sam Halliday of Winchester ABC dropping a split decision.
Matisse Wontumi of Brighton and Hove and DiSE was in a very close nip and tuck bout up at Cruiserweight vs Christopher Onogi of Peckham. Matisse boxing well, keeping his shape to clinch the split win.
Middleweight Fin Delea of Eastbourne and DiSE took on George Springett of Double Jab, adapting well as the bout progressed beginning to control the range running out a unanimous points winner.
Mel Sunray of Brighton and Hove and DiSE showed incredible heart and courage in a rip-roaring against Shannon O’Connell from Academy in South-West London, the latter taking the points decision win.
” A fantastic event with a bumper crowd. It was great seeing all of the Sport staff helping and supporting the event really showing great solidarity with the students. We invited students on to compete who will be boxing on the course next year as well graduated DiSE boxers. It’s so pleasing to see the impact the academy has and will have over the years.”
