Student services

We offer a whole range of services and support to ensure your time at the Brighton MET College is enjoyable and productive.

CAREERS ADVICE

The Progression+ team includes experts in admissions, careers, higher education, work experience and apprenticeships who offer advice and guidance. They can help with all aspects of careers and progression which includes applying for courses, interview tips, CV writing, application forms, job and apprenticeship searches and gap year opportunities.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

We believe that financial constraints alone should never be enough to prevent a student from studying and so we will work with you to find out what support you may be entitled to and help you to access any funding available.

ADDITIONAL LEARNING SUPPORT

Whether you have a learning difficulty such as dyslexia, need a little extra help with English or maths, have a physical disability, or need additional tuition because English is not your first language, our specialist staff will support you throughout your studies.

Pastoral Support Tutors

Our Pastoral Support Tutors are here to support you throughout your time at college, and will play a key role in your study programme.

Every student, aged 16-19, has a Pastoral Support Tutor and you will meet with them regularly. Through personal one-to-one discussions, tutors can monitor your progress, track your achievements, support attendance and set targets which will ensure you achieve your goals.

We know there are many factors that can affect you during your time at college. Our Pastoral Support Tutors will work with you and help you through the challenges which may impact on your journey. They will offer intensive support to students who are identified as being ‘at risk’ of not achieving their qualification. This is tailored support, which seeks to remove barriers you may face with the aim to help you get back on track to completing your course successfully.

If you are aged 19 or over, you will be offered support and access to Pastoral Support Tutoring.

Personal Development Programme

Our Personal Development Programme has been designed to help build your skills, attitudes and behaviours to support you within and College and throughout your future life. These sessions are tailored to your specific level of learning as well as the skills and risks in the local community.

Each session will be delivered by your Pastoral Support Tutor through a series of interactive workshops, they will guide you through your College journey as well as inspire and inform your future. The programme will cover a range of topics including social media, how to stay safe, respect and tolerance and creating a positive community.

These sessions will be supported and followed up with one to one conversations with your Pastoral Support Tutor and topics within your curriculum area.

COUNSELLING

The counselling team offers a confidential, free service to all students at the college. Our fully qualified counsellors can provide specialised support for those times when life can be hard to manage due to personal reasons, or when studying becomes a challenge.

Counselling sessions can be booked by dropping into Student Services.

In addition, to meet the growing needs of our nation’s Children and Young People, Chichester College Group has been part of a group pioneering a UK-wide directory of qualified Children and Young people counsellors and therapists with TAC Access. Our students can use this exciting and powerful tool to select a professional they would like to work with either face-to-face or online.

Please note, funding for this service will need to come from external funds, e.g. parent/carer.

AWARENESS EVENTS

Throughout the year, the college organises pop-up awareness stands and events on the Brighton MET campuses and we encourage all students to get involved. Whether it’s Be Healthy Stay Safe Month, Mental Health Awareness Week, World Aids Day or Fairtrade Fortnight, there will be lots of information and free giveaways to get students inspired and engaged with the world around them.

YOUR TIME AT COLLEGE SHOULD BE MEMORABLE FOR ALL THE RIGHT REASONS

Our role across the group is to help you get the best possible experience both inside and outside of the classroom. Recognised as one of the strongest Further Education Student Unions in the country we’re here to support your college life in a big way. We pride ourselves on offering a complete learner experience!

Positive Behaviour Management

Within Chichester College Group we aim to support our students with Positive Behaviour Management when there are barriers to learning or progression. Positive Behaviour Management involves identifying any issues surrounding a student’s behaviour which maybe impacting their time at the College, students requiring support maybe placed on the referral process.
