COURSE OVERVIEW
The AAT Level 4 Diploma for Professional Accounting Technicians (L4PAT) launches in September 2026, featuring five mandatory units, fully computer-marked assessments, and a focus on real-world finance skills.
The new Level 4 qualification, L4PAT, replaces the Q2022 Level 4 Diploma and is designed to reflect the realities of modern finance roles, embedding practical, work-relevant tasks throughout.
This flexible course is delivered in partnership with Mindful Education and combines online learning with face-to-face lessons in the classroom.
The course will run from 9th Sept 2026 (Induction and access to Mindful Education)
On campus sessions are scheduled on Wed 5:30pm – 8:30pm as per ME course calendar.
You will study five compulsory units, with no optional units:
- Advanced Business Awareness (AVBA) -; Covers data analytics, sustainability, ethics, and business strategy, strengthening commercial understanding.
- Audit and Assurance (ATIC) -; Focuses on audit principles and practices.
- Financial Accounting (FNAC) -; Covers complex accounting tasks and financial statements.
- Management Accounting (MNAC) -; Includes budgeting, performance evaluation, and management reporting.
- Taxation (PTAX) -; Updated annually to reflect the Finance Act, available from January 2027.
All units are assessed independently, and each contributes to the overall qualification grade. The passing mark per unit remains 70%, with overall grades of Pass, Merit, or Distinction. 100% computer-marked exams for all units, providing results within 24 hours after quality assurance

All level 2, 3 and 4 courses are run in partnership with Mindful Education as a blended learning course (online and on campus). To progress successfully through the course, it is essential to use the online resources timely, prior to the session with the teacher on campus.
Online, you will study award-winning video lessons, which are available on demand, and can be viewed from your phone, tablet or computer, meaning you can choose how, when and where you want to study. Lessons are accompanied by animations and motion graphics to bring concepts to life. Practice questions, downloadable lesson materials and interactive case studies help to enhance the learning experience further and learners should expect to spend around 6-8 hours studying independently online each week. If you hope to achieve a Distinction, this may be even longer.
On campus (sessions will be planned and shared as per course calendar) you benefit from regular classes with a college tutor. Your tutor will review what you have learnt during your online lessons and will be on hand to provide guidance on progress and assessment. Regular discussion with classmates will help to reinforce key points while also providing the additional support and motivation that comes from being part of a group.

Please note, the course fee does not include registration and membership fees. The cost of the first scheduled unit exam as per the course calendar is included in the course fee. However, any change in the original exam booking, any retake, or exam taken after the unit or course ends will incur a fee to be paid by the student.
FURTHER INFORMATION
Here are minimum requirements to join the course:
- English and maths Functional skills level 2 or GCSE English/maths min Grade 4 (C) (or equivalent)
- Successful achievement of AAT Level 3 qualification
- Access to a computer, MS Office Excel and a reliable internet connection is essential.
- Availability and commitment to dedicate min 6 hours a week to self-study
- Availability and commitment to attend the on-campus sessions as 100% attendance is expected.
After completing AAT Level 4, you can pursue senior accounting roles, specialize in areas like tax or management accounting, or continue your studies toward professional qualifications such as ACCA, CIMA, or ACA
