Assistant Accountant Level 3 Apprenticeship
COURSE OVERVIEW
Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship -; develop advanced finance skills and create clear pathways for professional growth.
An Assistant Accountant provides support to internal and external customers and will work predominately either as an assistant accountant within practice or alternatively within the finance function of an organisation. The objective of the qualification is to support the learner’;s role in the workplace, providing the opportunity to learn and evidence knowledge and skills as part of an apprenticeship. This qualification has been developed to support learners completing the Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship Standard and covers the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the standard.
This flexible apprenticeship is delivered in partnership with Mindful Education and combines online learning with face-to-face lessons in the classroom. To progress successfully through the course, it is essential to use the online resources timely, prior to the session with the teacher on campus.

We have partnered with Mindful Education to deliver this course through our flexible Online and On Campus model.
Online, you will study award-winning video lessons, which are available on demand, and can be viewed from your phone, tablet or computer -; meaning you can choose how, when and where you want to study. Lessons last for around 45 minutes and are accompanied by animations and motion graphics to bring concepts to life. Practice questions, downloadable lesson materials and interactive case studies help to enhance the learning experience further and learners should expect to spend around 4-5 hours studying independently online each week.
On campus, you benefit from regular classes with a college tutor -; without having to commit to attending multiple evenings each week. Your tutor will review what you have learnt during your online lessons and will be on hand to provide guidance on progress and assessment. Regular discussion with classmates will help to reinforce key points while also providing the additional support and motivation that comes from being part of a group.
You will also have regular progress reviews with your AAT skills coach.
Programme length 18 months
The course starts 16th of January 2026 and will be delivered on Friday morning.

FURTHER INFORMATION
You must have an employer in place and be in a suitable administration role that covers the themes in the course information tab to complete this apprenticeship.
All prospective new apprentices will complete an initial assessment of their current knowledge skills and behaviours through a skill scan. This must indicate that there is substantial new knowledge skills and behaviours to be learnt by completing this apprenticeship.
Good keyboarding skills are essential as well as a good knowledge of Microsoft Office. Achievement of an AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting is essential.
5 GCSEs, including Maths and English, although some employers will accept other relevant qualifications and experience, including a relevant Level 2 qualification. Apprentices without English or Maths at Level 2 must achieve this prior to taking the end point assessment.
As apprenticeships are now offering routes to degree-level qualifications they have become an increasingly preferred career option. It’;s an organic and natural career choice as apprentices are often offered a permanent, full-time position by their employer once training is completed. Certain business sectors offer excellent career potential.
As an apprentice, you get to work alongside experienced staff who will help you to develop job-specific skills and earn a wage at the same time. Many employers hold Apprenticeships in high regard as they offer real industry experience. A successful Apprenticeship provides you with a qualification and the skills you need for your job. This apprenticeship also provides you with the opportunity to progress onto Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship – AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting Level 4.
Multiple assessment methods, including ongoing written and practical assignments and exams, working towards the End Point Assessment (EPA) as the final stage of your course. Assessment methods can vary depending on the nature of your apprenticeship.
There is no cost to an apprentice.
If you are an employer employing an apprentice over the age 21 (without an EHCP) then you are likely to pay 5% towards the training cost.
If you are an employer with an Apprenticeship levy (i.e. your payroll exceeds £3 Million) then you will pay in full from your levy account.
