START YOUR OWN BUSINESS – Free Opening Doors Course – Programmes for Jobseekers
COURSE OVERVIEW
You can enrol online or in person by coming to the Student Centre at the College Mon-Fri 10am – 4pm.
You will learn:
- About making & presenting your business plan
- The implications of VAT, National Insurance and tax
- The different types of business structures
- Attracting customers & keeping them happy
- Legal and financial considerations
You will meet, hear from and ask questions to:
- Local professionals such as Accountants,
- Entrepreneurs or Self-employed people
The course will run on Mon & Tues from 09:30-14:30, detailed schedule below:

On completion of computer – based assessment at the end, you have a chance to gain two nationally recognised qualifications:

If the following criteria apply, you qualify for one of our FREE Opening Doors programmes
- 19+
- Unemployed and claiming a means tested benefit* or
- Earning less than £25,000 per annum**
- If English is not your first language, your language will be at Entry Level 3 or above
- If you are not UK citizen, you will need to provide a confirmation of EU settlement status or a valid visa***
*Accepted means tested benefits include: Universal Credit, JSA, ESA, Income Support, Housing Benefit, Pension Credit, Council Tax Benefit.
**Accepted evidence of your earnings include: Last three months payslips, Bank Statements, P60 or a formal contract of employment,

The final session on the 28th July at the college is an opportunity to discuss the next steps like qualification-based courses.
You will have a change to gain feedback from the teacher and ask questions to the guest speaker.
