The Constructing Excellence Sussex Club is a forum for individuals and companies to learn about the principles of best practice while creating a culture of continuous improvement.

The event, which took place last term at Brighton MET’s East Campus, saw members of the club experience a site tour around the state-of-the-art facilities of the campus.

Guests were invited to sit down with the Head of Learning, Jane Grealish, course managers, and education providers, to discuss how to further improve collaboration, the teaching curriculum, work experience, and industry placements.

After this, guests were invited to meet with students to tell them about the companies they represent, and what they do, which gave students valuable insights into potential career paths.

Sarra Hawes, chairperson of the Constructing Excellence Sussex Club and Director of Hawes Construction Group, said:

“In my role as chairperson of Constructing Excellence Sussex Club I am passionate about connecting our members but also about encouraging the next generation into construction.

“If we can use our position in this organisation to connect like-minded people, then this is a privilege we love to use. When Greg and Rosco approached us, we were excited to be involved, and their enthusiasm was infectious.

“We received some positive feedback from interactions with students. We hope this is the start of an ongoing relationship where we can help raise the awareness of the students and lecturers about the industry and be responsive for specific requirements moving forward’’.

Martha Killick, Vice Principal of Brighton MET College, said: “This event was a fantastic opportunity to bring together industry professionals, educators, and students in a collaborative environment.

“By showcasing our state-of-the-art facilities and engaging in meaningful discussions, we are strengthening the links between education and the construction industry, ensuring that our students are well-prepared for successful careers.”
