Code, Compete, Conquer: Brighton MET Wins First Tech Titans Challenge
Brighton MET’s finest gaming students recently put their coding abilities to the test as they took part in the first-ever Tech Titans challenge.
The competition pitted students from the college against counterparts from Chichester College, as they took part in a series of technical challenges.
On the day, students from Brighton MET clinched the top prize, beating competitors from Chichester to secure first place. All students who took part also received Amazon vouchers in recognition of their participation.
It all began with a systems engineering challenge, which tasked students with utilising virtual machines to tackle hands-on systems engineering, as they undertook a genuine diagnose-and-fix challenge under time pressure instead of a scripted exercise.
The next session saw students focus on smart networking, using specialist programming software such as Cisco Packet Tracer, and covering device automation and network design.
The final session focused on CTF security, as students took part in a ‘capture the flag’ style cybersecurity activity, working through ten practical security challenges, which tasked them with investigating software vulnerabilities.
These activities gave students the opportunity to acquire new skills, gain practical experience, and further develop their existing strengths.
Timothy Osaigbovo, lecturer in Computing, Games & Immersive Technologies at Brighton MET College, said:
“As co-organiser alongside Nathan at Chichester College, I couldn’t be prouder of what the students from both colleges were able to achieve. It speaks to the real depth of work that goes into impacting these learners, and it directly addresses the skills gap we see in the digital sector.
“Beyond the trophy, what I hope students take away is the knowledge, skill and understanding of what real-world problem solving actually looks like, preparing them not just for today, but for tomorrow’s careers.
“But if there’s one thing I’d want people to take away, it’s this: by the end of the day, we were all one team, and we all won.”
