Students and staff shine in Brighton MET STARs Awards 2024

Brighton MET College honoured a wide range of remarkable accomplishments at their annual Star Awards ceremony earlier this week.
Around 22 people received awards at the college’s ‘Stars of 2024’ on Tuesday (18 June), at the Brighthelm Centre, with staff and students sharing special moments and memories with the audience.
Many different people from a variety of subjects were recognised for their dedication, perseverance, and achievements over the last academic year.
The awards featured a range of stunning performances from students at Haywards Heath College and included renditions of “Always Starting Over,” Anne Marie’s “2002,” “Fame the Musical,” an acoustic version of “Everywhere, Everything,” and an expressive solo contemporary dance piece.
These students were also supported by hair and makeup students, who prepared the performers before they went on stage.
The evening finished with the biggest award of the night, with Brighton MET’s Brightest Star of 2024 going to Papa Asamoah.
Papa has recently completed his level 2 plumbing course at the college’s East Campus and is looking to continue his studies with Brighton MET next year.
Papa said: “I’m really shocked, I started to wonder if it was me as they read out my citation, then he mentioned plumbing and I suddenly thought it must be me.
“It’s fantastic, my mum and family are so proud, Gregg my tutor was also really pleased.
“I’ve really enjoyed the practical work on my course, the actual plumbing in the workshop, I’ve also found the theory really interesting but challenging.”

The event was hosted by Principal Paul Riley, alongside Vice-Principal Martha Killick. They were also joined for the Brightest Star award by Andrew Green, Chief Executive of the Chichester College Group.
Paul Riley said “The STARS celebration event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the exceptional talents and hard work of our students and staff. Their achievements this year have been truly inspiring, and I am incredibly proud of each and every one of them.
“The event is about honouring not just the award recipients but everyone who has strived for excellence throughout the year. Our staff and students have truly outdone themselves, and tonight is a celebration of that spirit.
“A special congratulations to Papa, who inspires us all and is a truly deserving winner of our Brightest Star award.”
