Students learn about Green Careers at Brighton MET Sustainability Event
MET recently hosted its annual Sustainability Matters Event, featuring employers and industry professionals committed to a greener future.
The fair took in place the Refectory, and featured businesses such as TrustedHousesitters, Network Rail, Bright Horizons Family Solutions, COH Surveyors, Gladrags Costume Hire, Willmott Dixon Construction and Recorra.
More than 500 students and around 34 classes attended, allowing students to chat with like-minded employers who are committed to a greener future.
The college’s T Levels, apprenticeships and career’s teams were also on hand to help students with any queries.
Jamie Binyon, Assistant Sustainability Manager for Willmott Dixon, said:
“We are looking to influence the younger generation, promote sustainability, and tell them what we do as a company.”
Ollie Cornwall, Construction manager for Willmott Dixon, added:
“We are also trying to show that construction can be for everybody, there is a lot of different opportunities for students that like the digital side of stuff, 3D design, even down to the textiles and fabrics and things like that.”
Jade Lesflores, who works in the Human Resources department for Network Rail, said:
“We’ve had some really good interactions and conversations with multiple different students here today.
“Within Network Rail we have so many different roles, so we are here actually trying to connect with students and find them a role or a pathway that will work best for them.”
Linda Laurens, Head of Learning for Business, Computing and Travel at Brighton MET, said:
“We’re incredibly grateful to the employers and organisations who supported our ‘Sustainability Matters’ event, along with our apprenticeships, T Levels, and careers teams.
“Our students loved connecting with passionate employers, gaining insights into green careers and initiatives. The energy and engagement were fantastic!”
Georgina Hooper, Sustainability Lead at the college, added:
“It was inspiring to see students engage with employers dedicated to sustainability and learn about their environmental initiatives.
“They left inspired and informed, equipped with valuable guidance on career paths and green business practices.”
