Tears, Cheers and Standing Ovations at Brighton MET Star Awards 2026

2 July 2026

There were teary eyes and cheers all round as students, staff, and loved ones came together to celebrate at this year’s Brighton MET Star Awards 2026.

The celebration saw around 25 awards presented to deserving students, recognising the hard work and dedication each student has put in during the last academic year.

These included awards for students who brighten the day of those around them, commitment-to-learning awards, and unsung-hero awards.

On the night, there was also a big round of applause for the college’s Brightest Star award, which went to Siren Smy, who studies a Step Up into Childcare and Care course at the college.

The evening also featured a very special showreel, which covered some of the work the college’s Film & Media, Creative Media, and Games students had taken part in, including this year’s Global Game Jam.

Matthew Vaughan, Principal of Brighton MET College, said:
“The Star Awards are a wonderful opportunity to recognise the incredible contribution our students make to college life, their communities and their own learning journeys.

“Every award winner has shown dedication, resilience and a commitment to achieving their goals, and we are immensely proud of them.

“This evening shines a spotlight on what sits at the heart of Brighton MET, our students. Their talent, determination and positivity inspire everyone around them, and it is a privilege for our teachers and support staff to be part of their success.”
