Boxing at Brighton MET

The DiSE Programme

DiSE offers aspiring boxers aged 16 to 19 the chance to train full-time in boxing while also studying full-time to gain qualifications that will benefit them outside of the ring.

You can study DiSE over two years alongside your school or College main study programme and is delivered by highly-qualified and experienced England Boxing coaches.

There are only 100 places nationally, so is highly competitive for elite level or potentially elite level boxers.

Official England Boxing Education

Brighton MET offers the England Boxing Level 3 Diploma in Sporting Excellence in association with Sport England.

This two-year qualification is accredited by England Boxing and taught by coach Adam Haniver at our East Campus.

Students must be in full time education to study the programme and ramin so for the duration.

The programme carries a value of 64 UCAS points for students hoping to progress to further study.

Who can apply?

DiSE is designed for the following categories of athlete:

  • Boxers between the ages of 16 and 19 years
  • Boxers who are, or show the potential to become, elite level
  • Boxers registered with England Boxing-affiliated club only

 

Boxers who are interested in the programme, but feel that they do not meet one of the above categories, can still apply and will be given an opportunity to be assessed at an open assessment day with our coach.

Adam Haniver is our DiSE boxing coach

Adam is an ex boxer competing for 12 years for Hastings Westhill as a Light-heavyweight.

All through is boxing career he also began to coach students at the University of Brighton where he gained his honours degree in Sport and Exercise Science. He went on to set up Eastbourne Boxing Club where he currently coaches in the evenings after DiSE.

He is an international 2 star and England Boxing level 3 coach. He also worked for several years an England Talent Pathway Coach and currently helps deliver coach education for England Boxing.

He hosts The Box Gathering, which is a community of practice for coaches, boxers and parents looking to develop their knowledge and roles in the sport. Adam went on to achieve his Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) to become a qualified teacher in 2012.
