COURSE OVERVIEW

Electricians install, maintain and repair electrical systems in industrial,commercial and domestic environments. Electricians might work in both indoorand outdoor settings. Electrical equipment and systems may includeswitchboards, motors, cables, fuses, thermal relays, fault current protectionswitches, heating, lighting, air conditioning and metering equipment as wellas crime and fire alarm systems and renewable energy technologies. They areable to work on their own proficiently and work without immediate supervisionin the most efficient and economical manner.They may contribute to the design of electrical systems. They are able to setout jobs from drawings and specifications and requisition the necessaryinstallation materials.Electrical safety is an important area of Electricians’ work. On completion oftheir work the electrical systems must be safe to use. They must adhere tosafe working practices without endangering themselves or others.Installation Electricians work on the installation, testing, commissioning andmaintenance of low voltage (less than 1000v) electrical and electronic devicesand appliances.Maintenance Electricians work on the maintenance of electrical and electronicinstallations including automated production systems. Duties include thesupervision of the equipment, its maintenance and necessary repairs.

You must have an employer in place and be in a suitable administration rolethat covers the themes in the course information tab to complete thisapprenticeship.All prospective new apprentices will complete an initial assessment of theircurrent knowledge skills and behaviours through a skill scan. This mustindicate that there is substantial new knowledge skills and behaviours to belearnt by completing this apprenticeship.5 GCSEs, including Maths and English, although some employers will acceptother relevant qualifications and experience, including a relevant Level 2qualification. Apprentices without English or Maths at Level 2 must achievethis prior to taking the end point assessment
