INTERPERSONAL SKILLS – Free Opening Doors Course – First step for the Counselling career path

COURSE OVERVIEW

This daytime course will run on Wednesdays, starting on 1st October

On this course you will learn about listening and communication skills for personal and professional development. This may be your first step if you are considering progressing to Level 2 Helping Skills and then to Level 3 Counselling Skills qualification.

The course is portfolio based, so there are no exams, just assignments where you gain all the learning you need in the classroom, through the course handbook and online resources. The learning in the classroom is practical, you will be learning through exploration of topics each week, discussion with fellow students and through practical activities.

Topics covered on the course:

  • Active listening skills
  • Communication styles
  • Exploring blocks to effective listening and communication
  • Qualities important for helping, support and leadership roles
  • Identifying and reflecting on goals

Employability skills gained on the course:

  • Reflective writing
  • Time management
  • Social skills
  • Cultural awareness

These skills are relevant for a wide range of jobs, whether for improvement or progression in your current role or a career change and a new role.

  • Mentoring / coaching
  • Management and leadership roles

Wednesdays 1.15pm – 4.30pm

FURTHER INFORMATION

Applying for the course:

You don’;t need to have previous experience or knowledge of counselling skills but you will need to have a good level of English skills as the course is about listening and communication, and has written assignments.

This course is fully funded if you meet the funding criteria.

If the following criteria apply, you qualify for one of our FREE Opening Doors programmes
  • 19+
  • Unemployed and claiming a means tested benefit* or
  • Earning less than £25,000 per annum**
  • If English is not your first language, your language will be at Entry Level 3 or above
  • If you are not UK citizen, you will need to provide a confirmation of EU settlement status or a valid visa***

*Accepted means tested benefits include: Universal Credit, JSA, ESA, Income Support, Housing Benefit, Pension Credit, Council Tax Benefit.

**Accepted evidence of your earnings include: Last three months payslips, Bank Statements, P60 or a formal contract of employment,
