COURSE OVERVIEW
The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Barbering Studies has been designed to develop your basic skills to become a barber. Through this qualification you will develop both skills and knowledge in health and safety for both yourself, your peers and your clients.
You will learn how to conduct a thorough consultation prior to starting a service and understand how the choice of shampoos and conditioners can affect the hair and scalp.
You will be able to cut basic and facial hair cuts alongside recommending products and services to your clients.
Units that you will be studying include:
- Follow health and safety practice in the salon
- Client consultation for hair services
- Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
- Cut hair using barbering techniques
- Cut facial hair
- Promote products and services to clients in a salon
- Style hair using barbering techniques
- Perm and neutralise hair
- Create and image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector
Students who have not yet achieved a GCSE Grade 4 or above in English and Maths will continue to study these subjects alongside their main programme.
We will also support you, to find a work placement to increase your confidence and employability. It is a mandatory requirement to complete a minimum of 38 hours work experience as part of your programme of study
FURTHER INFORMATION
Start at Level 2 if you have a minimum of 4 x GCSEs at grade 3 or above – to include Math’s, English and Science
You should have school attendance at a minimum of 87% or above and a positive reference
(Entry requirements for Level 1 are a minimum of 3 x GCSEs at grade 2 or above, including English and Math’s.)
An interview is required for this course.

Internal assessment (any requirements will be shown in the unit)
Assessment is set, marked and internally quality assured by the centre to clearly demonstrate achievement of the learning outcomes. Assessment is sampled by VTCT external quality assurers.
External assessment (any requirements will be shown in the unit)
Externally assessed question papers completed electronically will be set and marked by VTCT. Externally assessed hard-copy question papers will be set by VTCT, marked by centre staff and sampled by VTCT external quality assurers
Practical assessment
VTCT qualifications are assessed and quality assured by centre staff. Work will be set to improve your practical skills, knowledge and understanding. For practical elements, you will be observed by your assessor. All your work must be collected in a portfolio of evidence and cross-referenced to requirements listed in this record of assessment book
You will be required to purchase a professional kit and uniform – approx. £400 TBC
