Former Brighton MET Alumni Hoping to Show Off His Talents at UK World Skills Finals 

A former Brighton MET student has secured a reserve place at the WorldSkills UK National Finals 2026 recognising his skills in digital support and security. 

Toby Nichols, who achieved a Distinction in T Level Digital Support & Security last summer, was chosen as a reserve competitor in recognition of his technical abilities, as well as the opportunities available to digital students at Brighton MET.  

This also follows on from Toby’s success towards the end of last term, as he was part of Brighton MET’s winning team at the inaugural Tech Titans Challenge, that went up against students from Chichester College.  

The WorldSkills UK National Finals are set to take place across South Wales from Wednesday 18 November to Thursday 19 November, and will see the best of the best from across the nation showcase their skills and excellence across multiple sectors.  

When asked how he came to enter the competition, Toby said:  
“I first entered the WorldSkills UK after practising a past paper that was given to me by my tutor. After completing the assignment and receiving a potentially competitive score, I received encouragement from my tutor to apply for the official competition in the upcoming months.” 

Reflecting on his selection, Toby said: 
“Once my tutor confirmed that I had been selected as the primary competitor in my year of the course, I was proud that my efforts throughout my course had been recognised, and that my tutor had recognised that I was a reliable individual who could be depended on.”  

Discussing the support he received from Brighton MET College, Toby added: 
“Brighton MET helped prepare me for the competition by providing me with an environment which allowed students to receive close support from their tutors, alongside encouraging questions to be asked.  

“By providing me with this environment, I was able to build friendly relationships with my tutors whilst also receiving invaluable extra knowledge in areas of interest that I wished to progress in or learn.”
